Monday 12th April

We woke up early as we had decided to go straight through Leicester to Kilby Bridge, a total of 15 miles and 17 locks which add up to 32 lock miles – just over 10 hours! However Richard changed his mind and we decided to stop in Leicester. So we left our mooring about 9.30am. We passed the National Space Centre which was quite a striking building. As we got nearer Leicester the canal became dirty, dreary and with pretty awful buildings. When we got to the mooring area, right in the middle of Leicester it did seem to be better but we decided to carry on nonetheless. We had lunch on the hoof determined to make Kilby Bridge! We finally made our destination after about 9.5 hours which wasn’t bad considering that most of the locks were against us. We were beginning to wonder if there were any other boats on the canal! We spoilt ourselves with a “Paupers Menu” at the Navigation Inn (yet another one!) as we were both so tired! Another busy day tomorrow – but only 15 locks this time!
