Saturday 24th July

We went down river to Henley and tied up just below the lock for lunch. We noticed that mooring there was going to cost £9 after 3pm so decided to move further down as I wanted to have a look round the town. We found a place just below Henley Bridge which was £6 and was more or less on the finishing line for Henley Regatta! We were very surprised to see how much of the regatta paraphernalia was still in or around the river but discovered that Henley Rowing Club has a regatta next weekend. I was rather disappointed with Henley as I thought it would be “oldie worldy” but it was just like any other Thames side town but more expensive!! We bought a couple of pork chops for barbecuing and I won’t tell you how much they were! As we were going out of the town we passed a Church where everyone was congregating for a wedding – as we walked back over Henley Bridge we came across the bride, her father and four bridesmaids walking to the Church! As we got back to the boat to move on we were apprehended by a boat asking for their £6! Richard said that we were moving on and had only been there for an hour or so but they were insistent – what a con!! We went back up river towards Wargrave and moored up in quite a remote spot – a real “Millie spot”. Richard barbecued our very expensive meat – which I had to say was lovely.
