I am Linda and along with my husband Richard and our dog Muffin we enjoy our summers on the UK's canal system

Sunday 24 October 2010

Sunday 24th October

It was another cold start as once again the heating hadn’t come on – I do hope that Richard can sort out the batteries over the winter! However the blue sky and sunshine made up for the cold! We followed a hire boat up the canal who were very inconsiderate  Instead of waiting for us they went through 5 locks on their own and made us wait each time for them to finish. Not only that but the two young boys who were doing the locks either didn’t close the paddles properly or not at all! I was not a happy bunny! But hey ho at least the sun was shining! We arrived back at Newbury just in time for lunch. After lunch we had all the usual packing up to do then set off home. The photo on the above left is taken just outside the marina and the photo on the right is the view from the boat looking towards the canal.

The vital statistics for this trip. Total distance is 163 miles, 106 locks, 20 swing bridges and 21 days – not forgetting one falling in!!

So blog followers this is the end of our journeys for 2010. The totals for the year are 950 miles, 674 locks and 16 weeks 5 days. We have had a great summer and are already planning our trip for 2011. We hope to go up the Oxford Canal, Grand Union, Stratford Canal, River Avon, River Severn and then who knows where!!

I hope you have enjoyed following our escapades and will catch up with us again next year. I will email the usual suspects letting you know when we set off again. So from Richard, Millie and myself a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
