Tuesday 18th October

We left Shepperton in lovely sunshine – I was really quite sad to be leaving as we had had such a lovely time with all our visitors. Still we are meeting Wendy and Terry in Maidenhead on Wednesday :-) As we got to Chertsey Lock the sun disappeared and it became very grey and chilly. We stopped at Penton Hook Marina to get diesel. It’s a huge place set in 80 acres and the diesel is as far away from the river as it could possibly be!! There are 575 moorings with some very big boats in there. Richard asked the chap doing the diesel what would happen if all the boats were to go out onto the river together and he replied that that was unlikely as about a third of them wouldn’t start!! It’s crazy that people can invest so much money in a boat and then never use it – apparently it’s all a prestige thing! We stopped for lunch in Staines at the same place as when we came down. After lunch we set off for Windsor, Richard thought that it might take us a bit longer than we thought as we had the current against us but we made it in 2¾ hours. We moored up on the Windsor side of the river and went shopping and then moved across to the Eton side for the night. I didn’t take any photos today so I’ve put two others on that were taken in Weybridge as we went onto the River Wey.
