Monday 16th April

We didn’t have far to go today – 4 miles and 3 locks to Shardlow where we had arranged to meet Iain Jones, a boat surveyor, who was going to survey Mary H so that we can use the Manchester Ship Canal when we cross the Mersey in September. As usual all the locks were against us except for the last one and we even shared that - quite novel really! We moored up on Shardlow Wharf outside the New Inn and waited for Iain to arrive. The Manchester Ship Canal has all sorts of rules and regulations which have to be adhered to and Iain had to make sure that we complied. We now have our Sighting of Seaworthiness Certificate and can use the Manchester Ship Canal!! We decided to stay put for the night as I was rather reluctant to go out onto the River Trent and then not find anywhere to moor. As we were moored right outside a pub which boasted that it served 6 cask ales we decided to give it a try and Richard sampled the beer and we both had a very nice meal.
