Saturday 11th May

We decided to get up and going so that we got into Llangollen before the hire boaters.  It wasn’t far to Chirk Aqueduct where I jumped off to take photos.  It is a spectacular sight from up there but I knew that better was to come.  As we passed Chirk Marina we could see the hustle and bustle of the hire boats being made ready for their new hirers this afternoon.

We followed another boat over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and noticed that there was a boat coming towards us!  Fortunately he reversed back and waited – it was a trip boat …. did he really think we were both going to reverse half back along the aqueduct?!  The view from the top was as amazing as ever though the weather wasn’t as good as it could be – let’s hope it’s better on our way back.

The narrows coming into Llangollen are always interesting and today Muffin and I went on ahead with a walkie-talkie to let Richard know that all was clear.  We emptied the loo cassettes at the services and motored on down into the basin which is only about 40% full.

After lunch we went for a wander into Llangollen and bought some lovely looking sausage rolls for tomorrow’s lunch.  Muffin made some new friends, as he so often does – we may have to padlock him to us one day as people are always threatening to take him home with them!

We have accepted that Muffin doesn’t really like tunnels but he obviously has a good head for heights as the aqueducts didn’t faze him at all!
