Lapworth Lock – Number 22 (Grand Union / South Stratford Canals) – Monday 12th July

We had planned to stay put today because of the rain, however there was no rain when we woke up.  We didn’t rush to get up and then there was coffee and oh no, it was lunchtime!  By the time we had finished lunch it wasn’t worth moving on.  We have a very nice spot here so why move on just for sake of it?

After lunch we went for a walk to find a post box as I had birthday cards that needed posting.  According to the Local Postbox website there was one in Lapworth village, so we went for a walk up the canal.  We walked up to the Canal Shop between Lapworth locks 13 and 14 and had an ice cream, then wandered into the village where the letter box was exactly where it should be!  We were amazed at how busy the locks were.  We passed 7 locks and each one had a boat in it, and, in some cases, there were boats waiting on the lock landings – this was both on our walk up and down.  Most were hire boats but there was a sprinkling of private boats.  There were no boats going up.  I just hope that we don’t find Bancroft Basin in Stratford with no room in the inn.

In Lapworth Basin there is a house for sale.  Nosey Nora had to look it up on the Right Move.  It is 2 bedrooms, with a bathroom downstairs on a tiny plot and is on the market for £399,000.  It is in an amazing position with water on both sides – it this case I really feel that it is location, location, location.

This is the side that faces Lapworth Basin

This side faces Kingswood Lock on the short Kingswood Branch

I took a photo up the Lapworth Link and of the house on the junction, but I love this photo with the shadow in the water.

Also in the Lapworth Link is a boat with Landrover roof on the back deck.  Don’t you just love it?

Finally, a photo from the bridge over the Lapworth Link looking into Lapworth Basin.
