Friday 22nd October
Millie wanted to go out while we were having breakfast this morning – this is quite unusual but I let her anyway. I could see her climbing a big tree and prowling – she was obviously in a hunting mood! When it was time to leave Richard went ashore and went over to her to pick her up – she had just caught a mouse which was obviously very relieved to have the cat’s jaws released from around its neck! Millie was not amused and sat at the door crying to go back out!! We passed Uri Geller’s house today – well we have passed it twice before but didn’t realise it. If you phone a mobile number you can moor outside for £10 a night – Richard wondered if you didn’t ring the number that maybe Uri would come and bend your boat!! We moored up for lunch at Tesco at Reading as we needed milk. After lunch we said goodbye to the Thames and set off up the Kennet and Avon again. At one of the locks, goodness knows which one as sometimes they all merge into one, Millie decided to get off!! Fortunately Richard saw her and managed to head her off and back onto the boat. She hasn’t got off at a lock since the Oxford Canal – I’m glad that we are nearly at the end of our journey and hope that next summer she has forgotten about getting off at locks. We stopped for the night at Theale just after the swing bridge.
