Tuesday 14th May

The forecast for Wales today was diabolical though we were hopeful that the rain would miss the northern part.  We set off and turned in Trevor onto the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct where, of course, I had to take some more photos.

We stopped for water and went on through the Fron lift bridge, passing Beefur, whose blog I follow.  We pulled over just shortly after the bridge as Richard and Jim wanted to go down the path to below the aqueduct.  Penny and I stayed on board and got buffeted around by passing hire boats – why don’t they slow down??!

Richard and Jim got back from their walk with a disgustingly filthy Muffin – who had to have yet another shower!  He is so like a small boy!  We had scrambled eggs for lunch, courtesy of Penny’s friend June, who has a couple of chickens and can never eat all their eggs!

We had thought we would stop just before Chirk so that we could go to the castle tomorrow but it was in a cutting and very dark so we went on through Chirk tunnel to Chirk Bank where we pulled over and had a conflab which resulted in us going on to Poacher’s Pocket again.  We moored up and down came the rain – and boy did it rain!  It must have rained solidly for a good 17 hours and heavy rain at that.  We donned waterproofs and umbrellas and went for a very nice meal in the Poachers – much nicer than the meal we had on Friday.
