France 2016 - Day 14 (Lutzelbourg)

We were away by 9.15am - second to leave the Marina.

The first lock is a deep one but fortunately it is a very gentle side filler so we were fine as our ropes weren't long enough to reach to the top and back.

We shared the second lock with a small boat who used their boat hook to hang onto the ladder - it looked a bit dangerous to me.  We were at the front of the lock and as they are automatic you can't regulate the water flow so all I could do was hang on for dear life!

Our destination for the day was Lutzelbourg.  It only has a population of 695 people.

It was so hot, the thermometer in the village was reading 32 degrees.  We have a leisurely afternoon sleeping and reading until it was cool enough to go for a walk.

Lutzelbourg is named after the Middle German Lutzel burg which means small castle.  The village once had a castle perched 322 metres above sea level.

9.45 kilometres
5.87 miles
8 locks
1 swing bridge
