Hebden Bridge (Rochdale Canal) – Tuesday 2nd July

We left Todmorden and headed towards Hebden Bridge.  We made a quick stop at Lidl, mainly for milk, but of course I found other things!

Today was a little easier with less locks and more miles.  We have been amazed at how short a distance we cover in so many hours!!!

We passed an old mill which, once again, has been converted into flats.  I think I could live in such a flat but Richard says he wouldn’t!

At one of the locks we came across this area below.  I guess it’s one way of using up old locks gates and working boats without having to cart them away!

Play area?
There seem to be a lot of “water gypsies” outside Hebden Bridge.  The lot in the photo below have encroached into the land alongside the towpath and made vegetable gardens and there was even a little sitting area with a wood burning stove.

We dropped down into Hebden Bridge and over the stone bridge which was built in 1510 and onto the visitor’s moorings.  We will be here for a couple of days so I will tell you all about the town in future blogs.

Opposite where we are moored is a Thai restaurant called Rim Nam.  As regular blog readers will know we are rather partial to Thai food so, even though it was raining and I had a chicken in the fridge, we couldn’t resist a visit!  The meal was excellent – I wonder if I can persuade Richard to go back again before we leave!
