Abingdon (River Thames) – Friday 24th July

We had a rest day today.  Ray had to go to Watford to get the biometrics done for his Indefinite Leave to Remain visa and anyway it POURED with rain all day.

Richard decided to make a drastic alteration to the dinette so I stayed in bed reading all morning out of the way as the rest of the boat was in chaos.  Muffin joined me as he couldn’t find anywhere to lie.  We have new cushions on the dinette this year which are 4 inches thick rather than the 3 inches we had.  To start with the cushions were very hard but they seem to be softening with wear.  However the 4 inch foam was making us sit bolt upright which wasn’t comfortable so Richard has altered the dinette backs so they are at a slight angle.  Job done – much more comfy now :-)

I thought I would add photos of FL and Ferndale today so you can see the boats we are travelling with.  They do look similar and in fact Ferndale looks very much like Mary H in colour.

Ferndale is named after the place in Wales where Diane was born and brought up.  Festina Lente was already called that when Andy and Sue bought her and means “make haste slowly”.

We did something today that we have never done before – watch TV in the afternoon!  Well it wasn’t really TV as we watched a film I had downloaded at home – 50 Shades of Grey!  I read the books a couple of years ago but found the film wasn’t nearly as good.

We had just settled down for a quiet evening when I got a Viber message to say that Ray was back and the others were all in the pub and did we want to join them.  We put on our wet weather gear and took umbrellas and had a soggy walk to the Nags Head.  We had a noisy but enjoyable evening – not us of course but everyone else!
